2020 Honda Pilot vs 2020 Kia Sorento

2020 Honda Pilot vs 2020 Kia Sorento

The Honda Pilot is a seven- to eight-passenger SUV that Canadians value as a spacious vehicle with many performance, technology and convenience features that make family driving more fun. The Pilot also holds up against stiff competition, including the 2020 Kia Sorento. Here, we compare each vehicle in several key areas.

First off, we have to say that Pilot is larger than the Sorento. With an overall length of 4,940 mm, it’s 139 longer and 139 mm wider than the Sorento. This provides a stable and roomy utility platform that allows for a larger interior that we’ll discuss later. You will also find unique exterior features not found on the Sorento, including auto-leveling headlights.

Consistent power and an edge in performance in the 2020 Honda Pilot

The Pilot doesn’t require an engine downgrade in its starting trims. All models include a powerful 3.5L six-cylinder engine that generates 280 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. The Kia Sorento line includes two engines. The first is much less powerful 2.4L four-cylinder engine that produces 185 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque. It’s standard in two entry trims. The second engine, offered in Sorento trims, is a 3.3L six-cylinder engine that generates 290 horsepower and 252 lb-ft of torque.

Although the Pilot’s and Sorento’s primary engines are close in horsepower and torque, there are differences that give the Pilot an advantage. The Pilot’s highway fuel consumption rating of 9.3 L/100 km edges out the Sorento’s 9.5 L/100 km rating. The Pilot increases this efficiency with a nine-speed automatic transmission, which also includes paddle shifters for more driver control. You won’t find them on the Sorento’s eight-speed automatic.

When volume is required, the 2020 Honda Pilot delivers

The Honda Pilot and Kia Sorento reveal their biggest differences when it comes to available interior room. The Honda Pilot includes a minimum of 3,072 litres of cargo volume behind the front seats, and that’s 991 litres more than the best space offered in the Sorento. Behind the second row, the Pilot has 407 more litres of volume than the Sorento and 190 litres more behind the third row. The additional space adds up to more front and rear shoulder room, too.
