2021 Honda CR-V vs 2021 Ford Escape: Choosing the Option That Gives You More

2021 Honda CR-V vs 2021 Ford Escape: Choosing the Option That Gives You More

The compact sport utility vehicle segment offers you plenty of options, there's no doubt about it. However, some models are more successful than others with consumers. The 2021 Honda CR-V and the 2021 Ford Escape are two such models, to be sure.

The CR-V and the Escape have indeed always been among the most popular SUV models in the segment, but these are two sport utility vehicles with very different personalities. The Escape is more like a tall car while the CR-V is more traditional as an SUV. It offers plenty of interior space, the largest cargo area in the segment and a more efficient engine than the Escape right out of the gate, all while offering better fuel economy. Let's take a closer look by taking a look at the differences between the 2021 Ford Escape and the 2021 Honda CR-V.

More space in the 2021 Honda CR-V

The 2021 Honda CR-V offers the most spacious trunk in the segment with 1,110 liters of cargo space with all seats in place and 2,268 liters with the rear seats down. The 2021 Ford Escape offers 869 liters with the seats in place and 1,852 liters with the rear seats down.

So, we're talking about a difference of around 400 liters in total, or the equivalent of a compact sedan. If you need a lot of space, the CR-V has it all.

A different behavior in the 2021 Honda CR-V

The 2021 Honda CR-V isn't just more spacious, it behaves differently compared to the 2021 Ford Escape. For starters, the Ford Escape is smaller and lower, making it feel more like a family car than an SUV. The Honda CR-V offers an elevated driving position that most people want from an SUV, but above all it delivers more performance.

The Honda CR-V comes standard with a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine that develops 190 horsepower. The Escape also has a turbo engine, but that engine produces just 181 horsepower and it is a three-cylinder engine. Despite its lower power, the engine still consumes more than the CR-V in the city.
